January is a time for personal reflection, and it’s important to get your groove back so you can feel successful in all areas of your life. We hope that, after reading this post, you will feel inspired to tackle all your tasks! Take time to focus on what is important to you and then channel your energies in those directions. Here are our top five tips on getting started on the right path in 2017.
Get organized
This means that it’s time to start cleaning house! If you have old files, documents, etc., lying around, take this time to sort through what can stay and what needs to go. Start looking for apps or programs that can help you manage important projects. This will cut down on the clutter in your office, and make you feel more clear-headed. If necessary, look over the budget and adjust expenses as needed. You’ll feel rejuvenated and ready to take on this new year!
Make a list of priorities
You could set this up in two ways: create a daily agenda or a weekly activity schedule. For example, you might decide to take on a new task or project and need to rearrange your workload on the job to balance these new responsibilities. You can set your alarm early enough so that you will eat breakfast and pack your nutritious lunch every day. You can keep to your workout schedule, stopping to exercise on the way to or from the job. Be sure to block in family time and at least one night for going out with friends. At least once a week, you need to have fun! Give yourself time alone daily for reading, meditation, prayer, TV, crafting, or whatever makes you happy.
Set goals for yourself
This could be anything from finding a new work-life balance, to losing weight, or to finding ways to add in more time for community volunteering. You can give more of yourself to the things you really care about when you’re keeping track of how you’re dividing up your time. When you’ve got clear goals, and are actively working to accomplish them, it will leave you feeling more happy and positive.
Eat healthier
This could mean that you get up early on Saturdays to go to the farmer’s market or start a new vegetable garden. You might have to visit different stores to get fresh meat or seafood or whatever items you like to cook. Generally, staying away from dry, canned, and frozen foods as main ingredients will be better for your health. Try to schedule in time to pack good, healthy lunches for the week. Maybe pack them all on Sunday night, or set aside time each night to make sure they’re packed for the next day. You’ll find yourself having more energy throughout the day when you cut fast food out of your lunch routine!
Keep yourself motivated with personal incentives
Whether you’re at work, exercising, or doing chores, schedule in some breaks. If you stick to making those healthy lunches all week, treat yourself to a pizza night on the weekend. Keep yourself focused and working on the job for an hour, then give yourself ten minutes to relax. Repeat until the end of the day, and you’ll find yourself feeling more productive and less tense! When your routines are designed to optimize your health, you will be less likely to fall into bad habits such as excessive couch surfing, and munching on potato chips.
When you start this new year with written goals and a schedule to follow, you’ll be ready for success. Keep in mind that your schedule should have some flexibility. You aren’t a robot, and you will fall off the wagon every now and then. Your goal is to be good to yourself at all levels and to make time for the people and things that matter the most. In general, try everything in moderation and celebrate your achievements. This should keep you going with the right amount of excitement and predictability.
