5 Steps to Ergonomic Success
Are you looking for a way to make some positive changes for your employees? One great way to make positive changes is by improving (or - if you don’t have one already – developing and launching) your ergonomics program. Check out this 5-Step Checklist - it will help you enhance your ergonomic game and improve the workplace.
5 Step Checklist for Ergonomic Success
1) Assess the site for potential ergonomic improvements.
In order to do this, you need to have an understanding of the furniture and support present at the site. For example, are all the desks cubicle furniture or are there different types of furniture?
Once you’ve determined the issues and what is needed, you can create a checklist/shopping list for what needs to be used to correct the ergonomics of the workspace.
2) Determine what kind of ergonomic training and assessment you want to provide.
This training will be determined by several factors:
What training is needed?
When to train?
Who will your ergonomics advocate be?
This person will help onboard new hires to ensure they have the same ergonomic assessment that the rest of the office has, monitor ergonomic habits of current employees and employees asking for assistance.
3) Prepare for ergonomic improvements and training.
Double check and make sure you are ready to deliver. This means making sure the site manager is aware of the problem and is on board with the solution. It needs to be considered that other departments might need to be involved and anyone involved should understand their role in the program. Determine who is in charge of assessments and who is in charge of training.
4) Promote and deliver your ergonomic solutions.
We know what you’re thinking…promote? Yes, promote the program internally. Start getting people excited about the changes that are being made and get them ready to work toward the same goal. It should be included in new hire training, and ongoing.
5) Review and update your team on ergonomic efforts in your company.
The work doesn’t stop at implementation. This is just where it begins. It is impossible to know how things will go at the outset. Remind employees and managers to stay vigilant and ensure that the program is a success not only in the short term, but also for the long haul.
These are the five main points to pay attention to as you launch and manage your ergonomics program. Ongoing management and updates are important to the success of your efforts.
