Close that Can of Worms
Remember the standing craze a few years back? All those articles that were scaring your employees, with titles like:
“Your chair will murder you in your sleep”
“The seat is lava”
“Standing all day is the new kale!”
Well, exaggerated headlines make people click, especially if they’re scary. The truth wouldn’t make a good headline, because the truth is “Everything in moderation.”
That’s it. That’s what it all boils down to…get up and move at least once an hour, alternate work positions if you can, stretch often – simple things go a long way. And sit/stand desks – when used properly – can be a great part of that initiative.
But what if it’s NOT in the budget to outfit the whole office with sit/stand desks? And then, what if one person insists that they need one for medical reasons, and even brings you a doctor’s note? How do you accommodate one person without making it an “Everybody gets a standing desk!” free-for-all?
How do you keep from opening that can of worms?
You need an ergonomics program, and a policy that will control – in an objective and legal manner – what equipment and furniture is allowed, under which conditions those items are approved, and how employees go about getting those items.
You’ll get this – and more – in Ergonomics for Employers, our course designed for HR professionals, facilities managers, and other stakeholders in the ergonomics process of your company.
In our course, we’ll help you:
· Determine the unique needs of your company
· Set realistic goals for your program
· Develop policies and procedures
· Make a plan for program launch
· Determine measurable metrics for program review
And you’ll get pre-made posters, educational materials for your employees, a series of 12 educational newsletters, and more!
Opening an “ergonomic” can of worms could happen to you. We can help make sure that it doesn’t. And if it’s already happened, we’ll help you put a lid on it.
